Did someone just say Cupping Therapy?
" Where there is stagnation there is pain.
Remove the stagnation and you remove the pain."
The lovely Louella not only practices in 5 element acupuncture. She also uses the art form known as cupping, not to mention the 'sweet smelling' Moxibustion!
Cupping is an ancient form of alternative medicine, using cups on the skin that create suction. The cups come in glass, bamboo, earthenware or silicone.
During the treatment, Louella gets a flammable substance like alcohol or paper and sets it alight. As the fire goes out, Louella puts the cup upside down on your skin. As the air cools inside the cup it creates a vacuum, causing the skin to rise and redden as the blood vessels expand.
So why is Cupping beneficial?
* Reduces pain
* Reduces inflammation
* Increases Blood Flow
* Aids relaxation
* Is a type of deep tissue massage
* Relieves headaches and migraines
* Tone skin and firm the body
* Detoxify the body
* Gets rid of Cellulite
Cupping for Cellulite Treatment Before and After
It is highly effective on Cellulite because it activates and stimulates the lymphatic system, creating a flow of fresh blood that is high in natural nutrients. Clears and releases waste and toxins from fat cells, which breaks up and removes the orange peel cellulite look, leaving a smoother more toned finish.
So if cellulite isn't enough of a reason to have cupping, why else would you have this form of treatment?
Cupping unlike massage which applies pressure to the muscles, uses suction creating pressure to pull the skin, tissue and muscles upwards. This means you will feel a tightness where the cup is placed, but this sensation is much more relaxing and soothing than would think! It will cause the skin to go red especially if there is an injury or blockage under the cup. These red marks can last a few days, so be aware if you have a black tie event coming with a backless dress on!!
Which brings me on to the smell that fills the Pro Fusion Therapy Treatment rooms on a Wednesday!
This is another traditional Chinese medicine therapy which consists of burning dried mugwort on particular points of the body. This brings energy, fights cold and dampness in the body and is known for turning a breech baby. It is also beneficial for treatment of pain, cancer, stroke, constipation and hypertension.
Having experienced moxibustion first hand from Louella, I can confirm that it brought warmth to me on a day where I felt 'cold to the bone', I felt a deep sense of relaxation and it did not hurt. Louella held the mugwort stick near my skin at the site she knew would be blocked and took the stick away just as the site started to feel intensely warm.
Now I would like to point out, that although from the outside of the room it smells like Louella and her client are having much needed 'time out man', I can assure you its all above board! Hard to believe that when you see clients leave the treatment room with that vacant grin on their face in a relaxed trance........honestly it is the effects of either her acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion or a combination of all three!
So to wrap up, if you have an injury, suffer from intense headaches, need help turning a breech baby when that due date is imminent or want to get rid of cellulite then come and see Louella. Louella is also a trained Physiotherapist and Sports Therapist, adding to her knowledge and understanding of Chinese 5 Element Acupuncture, Cupping and Moxibustion. You really are in safe hands when you come to see Louella.
Tune into your body!
Have a great weekend
